About LawyersIndex
LawyersIndex is a free, searchable map of licensed attorneys in the United States, built from official state attorney records.
What we do
Finding a lawyer usually starts with a name from a friend or an advertisement. We think it should start with the official record. LawyersIndex brings together the attorney records that states publish, so you can see who is licensed, where their office is, how long they have been admitted and which other states they are licensed in, and then confirm it with the state.
Today LawyersIndex lists 656,057 attorney licenses in 18 states: Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Hawaii, Idaho, Louisiana, Maine, Minnesota, Montana, North Dakota, Nebraska, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont and West Virginia. We add states as their records become available and refresh each state when it publishes new records.
Where the information comes from
Attorney names, office addresses, phone numbers, admission years, status and, where available, law schools, section memberships and board certifications come from official records published or provided by state courts, state bars and attorney registration offices. Each state page names its source, and every profile links to that state's official lookup. Attorneys who claim their profile can add practice areas, a website and a description.
We do not add information from other sources about unclaimed attorneys, and we never publish attorneys' private email addresses.
What we are not
LawyersIndex is not a law firm and does not give legal advice. It is not a lawyer referral service, and a listing is not a recommendation. Always confirm an attorney's license with the state before hiring them. Our guides explain how to choose and check a lawyer.
How LawyersIndex is paid for
The directory is free to use and every licensed attorney gets a free listing. We earn money from advertising, optional paid listings for attorneys, and affiliate links. Paid placements are always labeled "Sponsored" or "Featured", and payment never changes an attorney's license information, hides a review or changes how other results are ordered. See our Privacy Policy for how advertising and cookies work on the site.
Corrections and removal requests
Records can be out of date between state updates. If something is wrong, attorneys can claim their profile to fix it, or anyone can write to corrections@lawyersindex.com. Attorneys can ask to be removed from LawyersIndex, and once removed they stay off the site when the state's records are refreshed.
