Privacy Policy
Last updated October 21, 2026. This policy explains what information LawyersIndex.com collects, how it is used, how the site makes money, and the choices you have.
1. How LawyersIndex makes money
LawyersIndex is free to use. It is paid for by advertising (including Google AdSense), featured and sponsored attorney listings, which are paid attorney advertising and are labeled, and affiliate links: if you follow a link to a product or service and buy something, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Advertisers and partners never decide which attorneys are listed. As an Amazon Associate, LawyersIndex earns from qualifying purchases.
2. Information we collect
- Attorney records. Names, office addresses, phone numbers, admission years, law schools and license status come from official state attorney records and public state directories. Email addresses in some state records are kept private and used only to verify attorneys who claim or remove a listing.
- Account information. If you create an account: your name, email address and password (stored only in scrambled form). Attorneys who claim a profile also give us the practice areas, workplace, contact details and states of licensure they choose to show.
- Messages. What you send us by email or through forms.
- Device and usage information. Like most websites, our server records technical details of each visit, such as IP address, browser type and the pages requested, to run and protect the site. With your permission, analytics and advertising partners collect similar information through cookies (see section 3).
3. Cookies and your choices
- Necessary: keep you signed in, protect forms from misuse, and remember your cookie choice. These are always on.
- Analytics: Google Analytics.
- Advertising and affiliate links: Google AdSense (personalized ads).
Optional cookies stay off until you allow them. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as a request to keep advertising cookies off. The services we use:
- Google Analytics (analytics) measures visits and how pages are used. See how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
- Google AdSense (advertising) shows ads. Google and its partners use cookies to show ads based on your visits to this and other sites, unless you turn advertising cookies off; you may still see non-personalized ads. You can also manage Google ad personalization at adssettings.google.com and opt out of many companies' interest-based ads at optout.aboutads.info.
- Amazon Associates (affiliate links): links to Amazon carry our referral code, and Amazon may set cookies on its own site after you click.
4. How we use information
To run the directory and attorney accounts, verify attorneys who claim or remove listings, answer messages, keep the site secure, understand how the site is used, and show ads and featured listings. We do not use attorney bar-record emails for marketing.
5. Sharing
We do not sell personal information for money. We share information with service providers that help us run the site (such as our web host and email delivery), with the analytics, advertising and affiliate partners listed above when you allow their cookies, and when the law requires it. Under some US state privacy laws, letting advertising partners use cookies for targeted ads can count as a "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. You can opt out at any time by turning off advertising cookies in Cookie settings, which is our "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" choice.
6. Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example California, Colorado, Connecticut, Texas, Virginia or other states with privacy laws), you may have the right to know what personal information we hold about you, to get a copy, to correct or delete it, and to opt out of targeted advertising. To make a request, email corrections@lawyersindex.com. We will verify the request and answer within the time the law requires, and we will not treat you differently for using these rights. Attorneys can also claim their profile to correct it, or ask to have their listing removed; removed attorneys stay on a do-not-post list so they are not added back.
7. How long we keep information
Attorney records are replaced when each state updates its records. Account information is kept while your account is open and deleted when you delete it, except for records we must keep for legal or security reasons.
8. Security
We use encrypted connections (HTTPS), store passwords only in scrambled form, and limit who can reach our records. No website can promise perfect security.
9. Children
LawyersIndex is not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.
10. Changes and contact
We will post any changes here and update the date at the top. Questions: corrections@lawyersindex.com. See also our Terms of Use and Disclaimer.
