Practice area

Most attorneys haven't listed practice areas yet. Until they claim their profiles, tags come from state bar section and certification records where available, otherwise from firm names.

Licensed in

Licenses come from official state records we have, plus the states attorneys confirm when they claim their profiles. To find attorneys licensed in more than one state, we match the same person across state records by name and other details, so a few may be missed. We work to keep this accurate, but always confirm an attorney's license with each state's official attorney lookup before hiring.

Attorney Listing Terms

These terms apply to every attorney who claims a profile on LawyersIndex, in every state. Claiming with a confirmed email lets you set your practice areas and workplace right away. Verifying by phone with the number on your state registration lets you also change your contact details, add a website and email, accept reviews, choose a paid plan, or remove your listing.

  1. Practice areas. You must list at least one practice area. Select every area that applies. If yours isn't listed, choose Other and describe it.
  2. Where you work. You must say where you work: a law firm, solo practice, government, courts, legal aid or nonprofit, a company (in-house), or a university.
  3. Contact information. You confirm your contact information is accurate, and you agree to keep it up to date. Until you verify by phone, your profile shows the contact details from your state registration.
  4. Client reviews. Only claimed profiles that have been verified by phone can receive reviews. Unclaimed profiles never show reviews. When you claim your profile, you choose whether to accept client reviews. If you don't accept them, your profile says so, and you can start accepting reviews at any time. Once you accept reviews, you can't turn them off. You can respond publicly to any review and report reviews that break our guidelines.
  5. Registration status. Profiles come from state attorney registration records. If the state no longer lists you as a registered attorney, your profile, including any paid listing, is removed at the next data update.

Paid placements are labeled as advertising. Paying for a listing never changes a rating or removes a review.
